Overview of Antigua and Barbuda

Antigua is a gem at the edge of the Caribbean Sea. Encircled by beautiful coral reefs, fringed with powder sand beaches and blessed with beautiful sunsets, Antigua moves you the way few other islands can. Barbuda, Antigua’s sister island and just 30 miles away, offers undeveloped beauty in its natural form. Both islands should be on any itinerary when visiting the area.

Once here, the low humidity, temperatures in the mid 70’s and 80’s, and near constant trade winds make you never want to leave. Rainfall is light compared to some other Caribbean islands and at only 45 inches per year Antigua is probably the sunniest of the Eastern Caribbean Islands.

While you may be coming here to simply relax there are plenty of options if you should change your mind. Whether your taste runs to diving, windsurfing or sailing, Antigua’s waters are among the best in the world. Land based options include golfing, island hopping, hiking and biking, tennis and just about everything else you can imagine.

Those who find they like Antigua often find an affinity for some other Caribbean islands, Anguilla and St. Maarten-St. Martin, to name a couple. Travel to St. Maarten is easy and flights to Anguilla are readily available too. You will find a wide variety of hotels on St. Martin and Anguilla has resorts for every taste. Both islands are worth checking out as either a separate trip or as an extension of your visit to Antigua.
